The position is for 3 months with possibility of extension. The chosen candidate will report to the VP of Patient Care Services/CNO at the facility. Job duties include planning, organizing, directing, and controlling the clinical, administrative, and educational activities of personnel engaged in the delivery of patient care in the assigned department on a 24-hour basis. Additional Job Functions: 1. Develops departmental short- and long-term goals and plans to accomplish agreed-upon goals in consultation with the Vice President Patient Care Services/CNO, Patient Care Services Directors, appropriate Medical Director, departmental leadership staff and staff nurses. 2. Conducts regularly scheduled meetings with staff. Meets on regular basis with the Vice President Patient Care Service/CNO to review project status, quality issues, status of goal attainment. 3. Develops, secures approval of, and administers a departmental budget which provides for the attainment of agreed-upon goals in accordance with approved plans. Monitors actual financial performance against operating budget. Works to control costs and maximize available financial resources. May delegate preparation of portions of the budget to other staff. Analyzes reasons for budget variances and recommends and implements budget changes when necessary. Determines areas of greatest potential for operational improvement. Evaluates and monitors savings. 4. Directs the preparation of departmental records, as well as recurring and special reports and analyses ensuring completeness, accuracy, and timeliness. Reviews and interprets these reports to ascertain the extent to which departmental goals are being attained. Takes corrective action as necessary. 5. Assumes operational responsibility for the administration of the department. Assures effective department structure, communication, and work flow. Delineates duties and responsibilities and assures suitable staffing levels. Evaluates and monitors alternative patient care delivery systems designed to meet changing staffing situations. 6. Hires, develops, evaluates, and (when necessary) disciplines and discharges subordinate personnel. Delegates these responsibilities to subordinate management personnel when appropriate. 7. Oversees the processing of time cards and maintenance of attendance records, either directly or through the delegation of these duties. 8. Participates in the development, evaluation, and administration of a productivity system. 9. Analyzes staffing for the department to ensure high quality patient care delivered in a safe environment while adhering to budget guidelines. Responsible for the development and implementation of staffing profiles and scheduling for all personnel. Promotes positive employee relations, ensuring open channels of communication, timely feedback, and staff involvement. 11. Plans for space, staff, and equipment needs to support these services. Participates in or assigns all or part of identified projects. Collects, analyzes, and reviews data. Collaborates in marketing strategies. Develops business plans as appropriate in collaboration with other leadership. 14. Identifies, plans, develops, implements, and evaluates various projects designed to enhance or upgrade department and/or system-wide operating efficiency and productivity. Coordinates educational and developmental activities for department staff members in collaboration with educators.
